Four Sundays in February

Beginning this Sunday, February 7th, the Northampton Arts Council is kicking off it's Four Sundays in February event series. Each Sunday this month there will be something new and exciting going on around Northampton, and the NAC wants you to join the fun. From concert performances, to film festivals, and even Sesame Street's own Big Bird, the Four Sundays in February event series is sure to have something for every member of the family.

SILVER CHORD BOWL 2016

When: Sunday, February 7th – 2:00 PM Showtime, Doors Open at 1:30 PM                                                             Where: John M. Greene Hall - Smith College

This year, the Silver Chord Bowl will kick off the Four Sundays in February Festival with a showcase of the top collegiate a cappella acts in the Northeast. The Northampton High School Northamptones will open the show, followed by performances from S#arp Attitude of UMass, Zumbyes of Amherst College, and the Smith College Vibes.


Big Bird is Coming to Northampton

When: Friday February 12, - 7:00 PM Showtime, Doors Open at 6:30PM
Where: Academy of Music Theatre

“I Am Big Bird: The Caroll Spinney Story” is a documentary chronicling the life of the man behind the beloved children's television characters Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. Since 1969, Spinney has brought some of Sesame Street's most iconic figures to life, and now he has decided to tell his story. There will be a screening of  the film on February 12th, followed by a Q&A session with Mr. Spinney.


Son of the Sheik with Alloy Orchestra LIVE

When: Sunday February 14, - 2:00 PM Showtime, Doors Open at 1:30PM
Where: Academy of Music Theatre

Celebrating the great film maker Rudolf Valentino, there will be a special silent film presentation of The Son of the Sheik, at the Academy of Music Theatre on February 14th. The film, starring Valentino (and considered by many to be his best work), will feature live musical accompaniment by the world famous Alloy Orchestra.


KidsBestFest-YouthFilm 2016

KidsBestFest takes place during public school vacation week this February, and features screenings of a wide variety of children's movies that you won't find in other theaters. The week of movies culminates on Friday with YouthFilm; a day dedicated to displaying the films of local youth.


June Millington Retrospective

When: Sunday February 21, - 3:00 PM Showtime, Doors Open at 2:30PM
Where: Academy of Music Theatre

In celebration of June Millington's life and achievements as a Filipina immigrant and music industry pioneer, the Academy of Music Theatre is hosting a retrospective which will feature performances by: Holly Near, Jill Sobule, Toshi Reagon, Gail Ann Dorsey, Christine Ohlman, Mitch Chakour, Sonya Kitchell, as well as members of Fanny, Millington's band from the early 1970's, and virtual appearances by the likes of Earl Slick and Cris Williamson.


Really Big Gong Show

When: Sunday February 28 – 2:00PM, Doors Open at 1:30PM
Where: Academy of Music Theatre

The Really Big Gong Show is the Pioneer Valley's favorite variety show, featuring local celebrities, chances to win prizes and to be a part of the act.
