Easthampton City Wide Flea Market

On Saturday June 6th Pioneer Valley residents came to Nonotuck Park in Easthampton MA, for the Annual Easthampton City Wide Flea Market.

In a time when computers and television make it difficult to find good reasoning to get out of bed on a day off, events like the flea market give good incentive to get out of the house. The flea market is the ideal town event because it brings people together. Together in conversation, in the outdoors, and in the act of recycling.

Although the forecast had predicted rain for the morning of the 6th, the vendors set up as planned. Fortunately there was no rain and the flea market went off without a hitch in a comfortable, breezy, summer day.

This was the 4th year of Easthampton’s Annual City Wide Flea Market (formerly City Wide Yard Sale) and this year the event reached maximum vendor capacity. 40 residents signed up to be vendors in the market as well as almost 700 residents RSVP’d to the event on facebook. The price to have a table at the market was only $10, which was then contributed to future park events. For $10 the flea market provided residents of the area with a larger group of people to sell their goods to while also bringing the community together. If not for the City Wide Flea Market, residents would conduct personal yard sales in order to sell their extra household items. In this way the Flea Market is a win win, not only is it better for the community because it brings people together, but it is also much better for the vendors because they receive many more customers.

Many vendors explained that they were very pleased with the event and had been quite successful throughout the day.
