Florence Savings Bank to Host Sixth Annual Adopt-a-Pet Day for Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society

Event is scheduled for March 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the bank’s main branch in Florence

FLORENCE—Florence Savings Bank will host its sixth annual Adopt-a-Pet Day for Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society on Wednesday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the bank’s main office lobby at 85 Main St.

Staff and volunteers from Dakin will be on hand at the bank for what Dakin Executive Director Leslie Harris calls a “meet and greet with animals” – dogs, cats and possibly a rabbit or two – that are in need of a home. Visitors can then complete the adoption process at the Dakin Adoption Center in Springfield later in the day.

Those approved to adopt will receive a gift certificate toward pet supplies, courtesy of the bank.

We placed six animals through the adoption event at Florence Savings Bank last year, and raised lots of awareness about the other animals available in Dakin’s adoption centers,” said Harris.

“The opportunity to take our animals to the community is one we jump at. Not only do people get to come and snuggle with some warm animals—and maybe even find a new best friend—but it also gives us the opportunity to talk about the other things Dakin does: providing low-cost spay or neuter surgery and vaccines, dog training classes and much more. We love meeting other people who love animals!”

Florence Savings Bank has a history of partnering with and supporting Dakin. Most recently, in 2013, Dakin received $5,000 through the bank’s Customers’ Choice Community Grants program to support an effort that benefits pet owners who can’t afford to feed their dogs or cats.

Dakin used the funds to purchase 10,000 pounds of dog and cat food, which was donated to families in the Hampshire County area, said Harris.
