City Receives State Grant for Dam Removal Design

On January 13, 2014,  the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs announced the communities that will be awarded grants and loans by the Patrick Administration under the $20 million Dam and Seawall Repair and Removal Program.The City of Northampton (City) Public Works is pleased to announce that it will receive a grant of $75,000 that will be used to partially fund the design for the removal of the Upper Roberts Meadow Dam.  The dam is classified by the State Office of Dam Safety as a high hazard dam which has been found to be in poor condition.The grant will help pay for the project design and permitting cost and will provide important relief to the water rate payers in the City.   The dam removal is tentatively scheduled to occur in 2015 pending approvals from state and federal regulators.
