Kennedy Road Bridge Replacement

Beginning Monday, July 16, 2012:
The official closure of Kennedy Road between Chesterfield Road and Audubon Rd in Northampton, MA to thru traffic is about to commence due to bridge construction. This project is being managed and executed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, MassDOT Project File #604242 and is listed as, "Bridge Replacement for Kennedy Road over Roberts Meadow Brook (Bridge # N-19-035)".

The Contractor for this project is Tully Construction Company from Southbridge, MA.  The scope of the project includes replacing the existing 16 ft wide single span bridge with a prefabricated 24 ft wide pre-stressed concrete beam bridge on the same general alignment.

This closure is expected to last for approximately one year until June 15, 2013 (project deadline) or possibly earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule.

A road detour will be instituted with appropriate signage to redirect drivers around the project site using a combination of the following routes: Aubudon Road, Reservoir Road, Chesterfield and Sylvester Road.  River Road is also currently closed due to bridge construction until Fall 2012, so it can not be utilized as a detour at this time.

Thank you for your patience as this important project moves forward.  Residents are encouraged to check this blog periodically for updates on these two bridge replacement projects or call Laura Hanson at the DPW office with any questions at (413) 587-1570, x. 4312.
