Decades of Signatures Found in Northampton's City Council Chamber Desks

A tradition of Northampton City Councilors and other elected officials signing their name in the council chamber's desks has carried on since at least 1927.  This month the desks were replaced after serving the city for almost a century.

City Council President Bill Dwight, who himself has upheld the tradition, likens it to being in third grade and committing graffiti inside the school desks. "It's almost kind of cute" says Dwight.

In the desk drawers, pictured below, you can explore the names of councilors, their respective wards, and the years they served, ranging from the 1920's to present day.
