Hazardous Household Waste and PTO Fundraising Electronics Collection

Northampton’s annual Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event will be held on the morning of Saturday, May 17th at Smith Vocational High School, 80 Locust Street. During this event, pre-registered Northampton, Florence, and Leeds residents may bring hazardous household waste free of charge for safe disposal via a licensed hazardous materials handler. Advance preregistration is required. Participants will receive an appointment time to deliver their material to the event.

A wide range of unwanted household products with labels indicating the need for special handling or disposal will be accepted. This includes household, garden and auto-related items with the phrase “keep out of reach of children on the label, or warnings that contents are caustic, toxic, corrosive, poison, flammable or dangerous.” For more information visit www.northamptonma.gov/reduce-waste.

Residents must pre-register for the event by Noon on Monday, May 12 by calling 413-587-1570, ext 4306. Detailed information will be sent by mail to registered participants. Non-residents, businesses and institutions may participate in this collection for a fee by contacting Susan Waite at the Department of Public Works at 413-587-1059 or via email (swaite@northamptonma.gov).

This event, which is financially supported by the Solid Waste Enterprise Fund and the Department of Public Works, is an important aspect of maintaining Northampton’s waterways and safe drinking water.

Northampton Public School’s Biannual Electronic Recycling Collection will be held concurrently from 9am-Noon at Smith Voc. For a small fee residents may bring computers, printers, home office machines and appliances, TV’s and other assorted electronics for recycling. Proceeds will benefit the Northampton Public Schools.
