State Awards Grants for Greenways

From the blog of the City of Northampton:

Gov. Patrick's Secretary of Energy & Environmental Affairs, Richard Sullivan, and Rep. Peter Kocot awarded 2 large grants on 12/5/12 to City Recreation Director Ann-Marie Moggio, Planning Director Wayne Feiden, and Mayor David Narkewicz for:

Broad Brook Gap addition to the Broad Brook-Fitzgerald Lake Greenway:
With this $326,000, approved CPA funding, and fundraising from Broad Brook Coalition and Kestrel Trust, we expect we will close on this 80 acres in February. Great Blue Heron Rockery, species of special concerns, 1/3 of a mile of land along the Broad Brook. It will be a great addition.

Connecticut River Greenway:
This $400,000, along with fundraising by the Northampton Youth and Community Rowing and any matching CPA funds that would be voted by City Council, will allow the City to close on the property in February, finish the design this spring, and in the summer develop the site into a riverfront park with sitework, access to the river, and docks.
